Diurnal and Seasonal Variations of Passive and Active Microwave Satellite Observations Over Tropical Forests

Documenting the large scale variability of tropical forest structure and function is needed for improved understanding carbon water cycles. The seasonal diurnal cycles passive active microwave satellite observations are jointly analyzed first time, using Global Precipitation Mission (GPM). Collocated backscattering coefficients from GPM Dual-frequency Radar (DPR) emissivities derived Microwave Imager (GMI) studied 4 yr over Tropics, at available multiple frequencies, angles, polarizations. Our analysis confirms patterns already observed with radars, a maximum backscatter in early morning attributed to xylem refill night. At same morning, we evidence minimum emissivity most forests: tend be phase opposition, as well their However, during dry season south eastern Amazonian where precipitation can low several months, cycle changes, implying different behavior this area, related state canopy.
